Dakota is currently being cared for at the Valentine, NE city shelter. Dakota was picked up as a stray suffering from severe Sarcoptic Mange. The poor girl was undistinguishable breed-wise, it was so bad! Thankfully, it has healed up and she is now starting to enjoy life again. Dakota is a high energy gal who would be good with fun stuff such as agility, fly ball etc.; she really desires a job to do. She is just full of happy energy! And she is just too cute! Dakota needs some positive training to learn what is expected of her, but she would likely be a quick learner. She is good with people, but has yet to be tested with other dogs due to the severity of her mange. We will be working on that in the future. We are unsure how she would do with cats. Dakota is up to date on her shots, and will be spayed before her adoption. She is ready to head to her forever home. Can you come rescue Dakota and give her the life she deserves?

UPDATE 3/15/08
We decided we would bring Dakota home with us for a few days, as the local City Shelter is full. I am pleased to write that Dakota has even impressed my husband! She has blended well with all of our other fosters and although very curious about our rescued kitten "Boopka"; she is showing a healthy feline respect.

Dakota is very high energy, so an active person or family would be perfect for her. She is a friendly outgoing girl.
She crates well at night; but prefers not to be crated during the day-however she will go in with a treat as an incentive. Initially there is a bit of fussing; but she eventually does settle down. Housetraining is on the agenda-she has had a couple of misses in that area. All in all, for a dog who has never experienced a home environment, we have to give her an A+.

UPDATE 6/07/08
Dakota loves to play with the other dogs and even though she seems very boisterous, I was pleased to see that she also respects another dogs' space. If the dog does not want to play, gives Dakota a warning, Dakota stops her playful advances. I enjoy and learn so much from simply observing. Dogs are such interesting, intelligent creatures. We could learn much if only we take the time... Dakota even has a sense of humor I believe. She can be such a free spirited, goofy girl.  When playing with another dog, she will turn her head, look at me, as if to say "so what do you think I'm going to do next. Dare you to guess!" Then she is off again with leaps and bounds. Gotta love a girl after my own heart!

Please read about our "Adoption" process prior to filling out an application.
